The Zihuatanejo Dive Center staff is experienced and certified by PADI for your benefit and safety. Our Theory classroom is equipped with a PC and DVD. We have access to various Hotels in IXTAPA-ZIHUATANEJO for the wet classes in the pool for preparation in closed waters. We have access to Playa las Gatas and other areas for "OPEN WATER" instruction and we have our own boats to access all of the areas shown on the map.
We have our own custom built dive boat - the newest and largest in Zihuatanejo -with lots of space so you have safe and easy access to the best dive zones on the Pacific coast of Mexico!

PADI "Scuba Diver" Course Details
In the PADI Scuba Diver course (Discover Scuba Diving plus 1 dive), your PADI Instructor takes you through the basics of learning how to scuba dive. You start in a pool or pool-like conditions and progress to the open water getting the background knowledge along the way. You develop basic scuba skills in a pool . Here you’ll learn everything from setting up your gear to how to easily get water out of your mask without surfacing.
After you have practiced all of your new skills in the pool, you take your first ocean dive in calm waters! Average dive depth is 6 metres/20 feet (12 metres/40 feet is the maximum depth). The skills and certification you earn in PADI Scuba Diver can be credited toward the PADI Open Water Diver certification.

PADI "Open Water Diver" Course Details
Start the journey of a lifetime with the PADI Open Water Diver course. It will change you forever.
In the PADI Open Water Diver course, your PADI Instructor takes you through the basics of learning how to scuba dive. You start in a pool and progress to open water getting the background knowledge along the way.
You complete Knowledge Development on your own, reading each of five sections of the PADI Open Water Diver Manual and watching the corresponding section of the PADI Open Water Diver Video. You will review what you studied in each section with your instructor and take a short quiz. At the end of the course, you take an exam that makes sure you’ve mastered all the key concepts.
- PADI Scuba Diver Certification
- At least 10 years old for Juniors Open Water Diver
- At least 15 years old for Open Water Diver
- Good health, reasonable fitness and comfort in the water
You’ll learn everything from setting up your gear to how to easily get water out of your mask without surfacing. You’ll also practice some emergency skills, like sharing air – just in case. Plus, you will play some games, make new friends and have a great time. After your confined water dives, you and the new friends you’ve made continue learning during four open water dives with your PADI Instructor at a dive site. This is where you have fun putting it all together and fully experience the underwater adventure – at the beginner level, of course.
Equipment you’ll use during the course includes: mask, fins, snorkel, tank, regulator, buoyancy compensator, and submersible pressure gauge.
It’s possible to complete your confined and open water dives in as few as three or four days.

PADI "Advanced Open Water Diver" Course Details
Move up and experience real adventure with the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver course. As you step beyond the PADI Open Water Diver level, you make five dives and have the opportunity to try some of diving’s most rewarding and useful specialty activities, such as deep diving, digital underwater photography, wreck diving and much more. These skills make diving much more than underwater sightseeing.
With your PADI Instructor you complete the deep and underwater navigation Adventure Dives. These dives boost your confidence as you build these foundational skills. Then, you choose three additional dives from more than 15 Adventure Dives to complete your course. You can go diving at night, check out the local wrecks in the area or even fly through the ocean on a diver propulsion vehicle – all during your PADI Advanced Open Water Diver course.
Adventure Dive options include altitude diving, AWARE-fish identification, boat diving, deep diving, diver propulsion vehicle use, drift diving, dry suit diving, multilevel and computer diving, night diving, peak performance buoyancy, search and recovery, underwater nature study, underwater navigation, underwater photography, underwater videography and wreck diving.
